Description
Overview
Schluter DITRA-DRAIN is a thin-bed drainage and uncoupling membrane for exterior ceramic and stone tile assemblies. Its 4 mm studded polyethylene sheet and filter fabric create a path for drainage and ventilation above the sloped waterproofing. It is a different product from standard DITRA and does not replace the underlying waterproofing layer.
Features
- Passive capillary drainage beneath the tile assembly.
- Filter fabric separates the tile-setting layer from the drainage space.
- Uncoupling helps manage stress between the tile and substrate.
What's Included
- DITRA-DRAIN membrane roll in the selected 108 or 269 sq. ft. size
Specifications
- Nominal thickness: 5/32 in. (4 mm)
- 108 sq. ft. roll: 3 ft. 3 in. Ć 33 ft.; DITRA-DRAIN10M
- 269 sq. ft. roll: 3 ft. 3 in. Ć 82 ft.; DITRA-DRAIN25M
- Joint accessory: DITRA-DRAIN-STU for cut filter-fabric seams
- Available size: 3' 3" x 33' - 108 Sq. Ft. / 3' 3" x 82' - 269 Sq. Ft.
Applications
DITRA-DRAIN is used in exterior thin-bed tile assemblies that need drainage and uncoupling above a sloped waterproofing layer. Plan the waterproofing, drainage path and tile installation as connected parts of the floor system.
Plan Your Installation
- Confirm the exterior waterproofing slope and the planned drainage outlet/edge detail before laying out the membrane.
- Choose the 108 or 269 sq. ft. roll from the actual cutting layout. Use the 4 mm membrane thickness when coordinating the assembly height.
- Identify seams with cut filter-fabric edges and include DITRA-DRAIN-STU tape for those connections.
Common Planning Questions
Does DITRA-DRAIN replace the waterproofing beneath it?
No. It provides drainage and uncoupling above the properly sloped waterproofing layer.
Can I follow standard DITRA wood-floor details?
No. Select the drainage-system detail for this membrane and exterior assembly; standard DITRA specifications are not interchangeable.
