Overview

Protecto Wrap AFM is a 40 mil self-adhering crack-isolation membrane for thin-set tile and stone installations. This 36" x 75' roll provides 225 sq. ft. of nominal material for full-floor coverage or cuts needed for localized treatment, with a tough fabric face over a rubberized adhesive.

Applications

Use beneath interior ceramic, porcelain, marble and other dimensional stone tile over approved concrete, mortar beds, cement backer board, cement terrazzo, exterior-glue plywood, OSB and other substrates listed in the data sheet. Existing tile, stone, gypcrete, metal and cured Portland-based patching compounds require the specified preparation. Do not treat AFM as a substitute for a dedicated waterproofing assembly.

Selection and Use

• Prepare a clean, dry, sound substrate and allow leveling or patching compounds to cure before installing the membrane. Prime with the specified Protecto primer and let it dry completely; do not install over wet primer.
• Crack isolation does not eliminate movement joints or correct vertical displacement. Do not bridge cracks or control joints wider than 3/8"; cracks larger than 3/16" require the specified preparation.
• Address hydrostatic pressure, persistent moisture, calcium-chloride emissions above 4 lb./1,000 sq. ft./24 hours or slab RH above 75% before installation.
• Use suitable latex-modified thin-set mortar and keep the embedded mortar thickness at 3/8" or less. If greater build-up is required, level below the membrane first and allow the leveling material to cure.
• Do not expose the membrane to solvent-based sealants. Follow the linked instructions for substrate exclusions, movement joints and all perimeter details.
• Marine-grade plywood, wood plank flooring, particle board, Luan, Masonite and laminate surfaces are excluded. Do not install self-leveling underlayment over AFM.
