Description
Overview
MVIS Air & Water Barrier is a single-component, fluid-applied elastomeric membrane for specified building-envelope and veneer assemblies. It forms a continuous coating over suitable prepared surfaces, helping control air/water movement when correctly connected to the surrounding wall system.
Features
- Self-curing, low-VOC, water-based formula.
- Bonds to suitable concrete, brick, cement plaster and backer board.
- Microban protects the treated membrane rather than providing a health guarantee.
- Listed testing includes ASTM E2357, ASTM D1970 and ANSI A118.10/A118.12.
Specifications
- Package: 5 gallon
- Approximate completed coverage: 250 sq. ft.
- Application: Two coats, each 15ā22 mils wet
- Total dry-film thickness: 20ā30 mils

Applications
Use as specified in the designed MVIS wall assembly. Air-barrier, waterproofing and crack-isolation roles depend on the construction detail; the sheet expressly notes that an air-barrier-system installation is not simultaneously functioning as a waterproofing/anti-fracture membrane.
Plan Your Installation
- Have the design professional determine membrane position for the climate zone, insulation and wall construction.
- Detail penetrations, transitions and adjacent materials continuously; field coating alone does not complete the air barrier.
- Do not bond to particleboard, interior-glue plywood, luan, Masonite or hardwood, and do not treat OSB as a veneer substrate.
- Do not use as a primary roof membrane or across structural/vertical movement cracks. Keep in-plane movement within the specified 1/8 in. limit.
Common Planning Questions
Does using it guarantee lower energy bills?
No. A properly designed air-barrier assembly can support building efficiency, but individual energy savings are not guaranteed by the membrane alone.
