Overview

LATICRETE 254 Platinum is a one-step, polymer-fortified thin-set mortar mixed with water for demanding tile and stone installations. Its long open time and creamy workability support porcelain and glass tile, including thin porcelain panels, with suitability for specified exterior and submerged work.

Applications

Use for ceramic, porcelain, glass, stone, quarry tile, pavers and brick on suitable interior/exterior assemblies. Substrates include mortar beds, existing tile/stone, concrete/masonry, concrete block, cement plaster, cement terrazzo, cement backer board, STRATA_MAT and HYDRO BAN Board.

Plan Your Installation

  • Plywood, plastic laminate and prepared resilient tile are interior-only; gypsum wallboard and gypsum plaster are limited to interior non-wet areas. Follow the preparation requirements for non-water-soluble cutback adhesive.
  • Confirm backer-board exterior approval and HYDRO BAN Board installation details before choosing the assembly.
  • Calculate quantity with the actual tile, notch and substrate; listed yields are approximate.
  • Choose the mortar color and installation method appropriate for the selected tile or stone, particularly thin panels and glass.

    Platinum 254

    This is the best stuff around ! It is true, it sticks to your tools, your hands, your clothes. But, if you want your tile to be permanently attached, this is what you want to purchase.

    Apply Laticrete 254 to 24"x24 marble tile

    When installing 24"x24" large marble tile with mesh and sprayed sand on the back, we need a strong thin set to hold the heavy marble in level. Laticrete 254 served the purpose. The pot life is a little short - 2hrs, but the holding power is much better.

    Never fails

    I am a mosaic artist working mainly in site specific installations, and primarily with stained glass in place of tile. Because sheet glass is so non-porous, other brands of thinset are not reliable; my pieces tend to fall off. When I use 254 Platinum and 254 Platinum Plus, I can adhere to fiberglass mesh and move the mosaic around easily without losing any pieces. The mortar is strong enough to hold my work securely in exterior locations and has enough flex to withstand freeze-thaw cycles in any climate. I rely on this product and I get very frustrated every time a distributor stops carrying it. Thank you to Stone Tooling for keeping it in stock; it's a life saver!
