Overview
LATICRETE 253 Gold is a water-mixed, polymer-fortified cementitious thin-set for ceramic tile, porcelain and natural stone. It serves interior and exterior wall or floor installations when matched to an approved substrate and the tile’s requirements.

Applications
Use over suitable concrete, mortar beds, existing ceramic tile/stone, masonry, cement plaster and cement terrazzo. Gypsum wallboard, exterior-glue plywood, prepared vinyl tile and non-water-soluble cutback are interior-only; check the backer-board manufacturer’s preparation and exterior-use approval.
Plan Your Installation
- Add powder to clean potable water in a clean pail; mix by hand or with a slow-speed mixer to a smooth consistency, slake and remix. Stir occasionally during use, but do not retemper with water.
- Key mortar into the substrate with the flat trowel side, then comb with a notch sized to achieve full bedding. Spread only what can be covered in the listed 15–20 minute interval.
- The installation instructions call for back-buttering tiles larger than 8 x 8 in. Bed tiles into wet, sticky mortar and check transfer by lifting tiles periodically.
- Use a beating block and rubber mallet as appropriate for embedding and leveling. Remove and replace mortar that has skinned over rather than setting into it.
Common Planning Questions
Is coverage fixed per bag?
No. Tile size, trowel notch and substrate conditions change the yield; use the approximate figures to plan, then verify actual bedding.
