Schluter Ditra-Heat Cable - 120V

Overview

Schluter DITRA-HEAT-E-HK 120 V heating cable snaps into the DITRA-HEAT membrane so you can warm the usable floor area instead of committing to a fixed rectangular mat. Choose the cable length from the actual heated area and planned spacing. The heating portion has a fixed resistance and must never be cut or shortened.

Plan Your Installation

• Have the supply voltage confirmed before ordering: this listing is specifically for a 120 V cable.
• Draw the heated zones after removing cabinets, tubs, islands and other excluded fixtures. Match the remaining area to an approved spacing layout and the model data in Specifications.
• Plan the cold-lead route, sensor position and cable end before installation. The approximately 7-foot cold lead is separate from the heating length.
• Check the selected wattage and current against the control and circuit design; arrange the required testing before the cable is concealed.

Common Planning Questions

Can I buy a longer cable and cut off the excess?
No. The heating cable must stay at its factory length. Adjust the planned layout only within the permitted installation detail.

Does the square-foot figure describe the whole bathroom?
No. It describes heated area at the stated spacing. Fixed fixtures and required clearances reduce the area available for cable.

Cable Planning and Installation Limits

• Never cut, shorten, cross, or modify the heating cable. Altering it can cause overheating or failure.
• Do not run heating cable beneath fixed cabinets, islands, vanities, tub platforms, or other permanent fixtures.
• Keep the factory cold-lead/heating-cable splice entirely beneath the floor covering; do not place it in the wall.
• Use the spacing specified for the selected floor assembly. The coverage figures in Specifications use 3-stud spacing, approximately 3-1/2 in. (9 cm); alternate approved layouts change the heated area.
• Maintain the installation clearances: 8 in. from other heat sources, 6 in. from plumbing drains, 3 in. from walls, and 2 in. from fixed cabinets, subject to the applicable handbook detail.
• Plan a permitted buffer area for remaining cable, such as near the doorway or behind a toilet. Never shorten a cable to resolve a layout problem.
