Overview
Multi-Surface Bonding Primer (MBP) is a ready-to-use, water-based primer for difficult-to-bond surfaces. Its aggregate-and-polymer formula leaves a textured finish that promotes adhesion of modified cement mortar and self-leveling underlayment to compatible porous or non-porous substrates.

Applications
Use MBP where the selected mortar or underlayment needs a bond-promoting primer over an approved existing finish. Suitable surfaces include prepared ceramic or porcelain tile, concrete, terrazzo, quarry tile, natural stone, VCT, vinyl, epoxy coatings, laminates, rigid fiberglass and cleaned rust-free steel.
Selection and Use
- Exterior-grade plywood, OSB and prepared gypsum underlayments have interior-use restrictions. Gypsum underlayments must meet the strength and preparation requirements; the specified primer rate is 150 sq. ft. per gallon.
- Compatible moisture-vapor barriers include properly cured TECH MVC and approved sheet goods. Confirm that the next mortar or underlayment also permits the substrate.
- Existing finishes must be firmly bonded, clean and dry. The no-abrasion benefit does not permit priming over dust, sealers, curing compounds or other bond breakers.
- Do not dilute, use over Saltillo tile, expose to prolonged water immersion or use for exterior commercial applications.
- For cutback residue, follow the data sheet’s removal precautions: do not sand or grind potentially asbestos-containing adhesive.
