Overview
ARDEX X 5 is a flexible, polymer-modified mortar for large-format and heavy tile and stone. Its creamy consistency and sag resistance make it useful for both floor and wall installations.
Features
- For porcelain, quarry, ceramic and most moisture-insensitive natural stone.
- Designed for applications using up to a 3/4 in. square-notch trowel.
- Water- and frost-resistant for appropriate interior or exterior work.

Applications
Use over properly prepared substrates in approved interior or exterior tile assemblies. Exterior-grade plywood is for interior applications; concrete, masonry, existing tile and other surfaces require the preparation and priming specified for this mortar.
Selection and Use
- Coverage is approximate and depends on the substrate and trowel. Trowel size is not the finished mortar-bed thickness.
- Moisture-sensitive stone requires a different product selection; follow the stone manufacturer and ARDEX recommendations.
- Nonporous surfaces require the specified primer, admixture or scratch-coat procedure. Interior metal applications exclude aluminum and require ARDEX guidance.
