Description
Overview
VersaBond-LFT is a polymer-modified large-format tile mortar for most interior and exterior floor and wall installations. Its non-sag, non-slump formulation supports large porcelain, ceramic and suitable natural stone while allowing a thicker setting bed than a conventional thin-set application.
Features
- Supports large and heavy tile for a flatter installation.
- Exceeds ANSI A118.4HT and A118.11 without extra additives.
- Suitable for specified in-floor heating assemblies.
Specifications

Applications
Use VersaBond-LFT for large and heavy tile over the compatible prepared substrates listed in Specifications. Select the mortar bed and trowel for tile warpage, underside pattern and required contact; a non-slump mortar does not correct an inadequately prepared floor.
Selection and Use
- CUSTOM does not recommend a 1/2-inch square-notch trowel because the ridge spacing makes full bedding more difficult. A deeper slanted, U-, V- or suitable large-format notch that promotes ridge collapse is preferred.
- A 3/4 × 9/16 × 3/8-inch U-notch at 30° provides the listed 42–47 sq. ft. estimate while improving ridge collapse compared with the 1/2-inch square notch.
- Achieve at least 80% mortar contact in dry areas and 95% in wet/exterior areas, with all tile edges supported. Lift tiles to check; large, deeply patterned or ungauged tile may need flat or notched back-troweling and extra mortar.
- Not for pools or water features. Moisture-sensitive or resin-backed stone needs a specified epoxy mortar; clear glass requires a suitable glass-tile mortar.
- Allow approximately 24 hours before grouting/light traffic and 7–10 days before heavy traffic, subject to conditions and a properly rated assembly.
