Description
Overview
Custom Polymer-Modified Mortar Bed is a preblended floor-and-wall mud for floating a base beneath ceramic or natural stone tile. Its polymer-modified 3:1 mix eliminates jobsite blending of sand, cement and latex; water is sufficient for standard use, with a specified admix option for higher strength.
Features
- Preblended Portland-cement formulation with polymer already included.
- Pumpable formula for compatible placement equipment.
- For approved interior and exterior mortar-bed assemblies, including shower pans.

Applications
Use to float tile mortar beds, walls, curbs and seats on properly prepared, approved assemblies. The mortar allows moisture to pass through and is not a waterproofing membrane or moisture-vapor barrier; shower and exterior work still needs the specified water-management assembly.
Selection and Use
- Select dry-pack or wall consistency for the intended placement. Follow TCNA/ANSI details for bonded and unbonded beds rather than applying directly to any available surface.
- Wood and gypsum uses have specific restrictions and preparation requirements. Do not bond to unstable plank hardwood, particleboard or parquet.
- As a guideline, floor mud may be ready for tile at walkable hardness in 3–4 hours and wall mud when firm in 1–2 hours; conditions affect these times.
- Allow about 24 hours before grouting/light traffic and 7–10 days before heavy or vehicle traffic, only when the complete assembly is rated for that service.
- Do not apply below 50°F or use as an exposed finished wear layer.
