Description
Overview
Ultra X Guard is a self-curing liquid polymer membrane for waterproofing and crack isolation beneath tile or stone in approved interior and exterior assemblies. It forms a continuous membrane, but its performance depends on substrate preparation, coverage, curing and the required transition details.
Features
- Seamless liquid-applied waterproofing and anti-fracture layer.
- Crack-isolation capability for in-plane cracks up to 1/8 inch (3 mm), as specified.
- Dries to a dark gold color; timing depends on temperature and humidity.
- Mold- and mildew-resistant formulation as listed.
Specifications

Applications
Use in approved tile and stone waterproofing assemblies, including bathroom and shower work. Suitable bases include properly prepared concrete, masonry, cured mortar beds, cement backer units and specified self-leveling compounds. Interior-only substrates include the specifically permitted wallboard, unglazed tile, cement terrazzo, exterior-grade plywood floors/countertops and prepared plumbing penetrations.
Selection and Use
- Select the procedure for crack isolation, general waterproofing or a shower-pan application. Coverage is per coat: the linked guide lists 100 sq ft/gal for continuous crack isolation, 120 sq ft/gal for general waterproofing and 80 sq ft/gal per coat for its two-coat IAPMO detail. Do not treat these as interchangeable finished-area yields.
- Prepare a sound, clean surface and provide slope to drain where required. Detail corners, penetrations and drains according to the guide; some transitions require reinforcement.
- Inspect for pinholes and insufficient coverage. Follow the application-specific recoat directions and allow at least 24 hours before flood testing or water exposure.
- Do not use over wet surfaces or hydrostatic pressure, as an exposed wear surface, roof membrane, storage-tank lining or primary waterproofing over occupied space. Do not bridge expansion joints or out-of-plane movement.
- Excluded bases include OSB, particleboard, treated plywood, plank flooring, gypsum floor patches, vinyl, glazed tile, laminate, fiberglass and epoxy floors. Do not use premixed adhesives or solvent-based materials over it.
- For exterior work, cover with the specified finish within 72 hours or protect from sunlight as instructed. Read the complete installation and safety documents before use.
