Overview
HardieBacker 1/4 in. cement backer board provides a thin, moisture-resistant underlayment for tile floors and countertops. The 3 ft. × 5 ft. fiber-cement sheet offers a uniform surface for tile bonding without adding the height of a thicker backer board.

Applications
Use as tile underlayment on suitable floors and countertops in kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms and similar spaces. James Hardie recommends the 1/4 in. board for floor applications unless extra thickness is needed for a transition.
Selection and Use
- Plan the complete floor or countertop assembly, including substrate, mortar, fasteners and joint treatment, using the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Moisture resistance of the board does not by itself establish a waterproof finished assembly; follow the applicable wet-area details.
- Use appropriate dust-control and cutting practices and review the linked safety data before cutting.
